One Monkey Won't Stop No Show.

The entertainment industry has now gotten so accustomed to using social media as a way to market itself that any drastic changes may affect the ways we consume and monetize music. As a creative in the music entertainment industry, your main focus is on how you can make your creativity into your livelihood. Social Media platforms like Tik Tok have created a way for musicians to get their music heard on a boarder scale. Since the launch of Tik Tok and its many different social capabilities, we've seen some of our favorite creatives become the biggest superstars in less than a year. TikTok has successfully stayed in the running as one of the highest competitive social media platforms along with Meta and YouTube.

Before getting into the bill that Congress is trying to pass that will restrict and ban the use of Tik Tok in the US we have to get into what the social app has offered music artists since its launch in 2020.

What are the features that Tik Tok offers to music artists?

TikTok offers music artists the ability to create and share short-form videos with their music, reach a large and diverse audience, participate in viral challenges and trends, collaborate with other artists, and gain exposure and recognition for their music. TikTok also has a robust analytics system that allows artists to track their performance on the platform. With that being said we know that the need to want to gain traction for a musician's music is the top priority. Short-form videos give artists an opportunity to pinpoint certain pivotal parts of a song and make them go viral, hence creating a memorable experience with that song. TikTok's algorithm itself has created a way for artists to reach large amounts of viewers by tapping into what one person consistently looks like they are interested in. If your music speaks about being from a struggling past people that have an interest in getting out of a struggling environment will automatically be directed to your music. This type of technology is far beyond its time and its restriction of it will definitely change the way music is consumed and monetized.

The Restrict Act doesn't just affect Tik Tok but also affects all social media platforms that may promote or condone communication by any opposing party of the United States. We all know that Tik Tok and other social platforms like Meta are widely used across the world to share mutual knowledge and experiences. The fear and assumption of the United States Congress are that this could potentially put Americans in grave danger with its enemies.

The Restrict Act could have been a concern with other information and communication technologies but because apps like Tik Tok have gotten so dangerously close to uncovering certain aspects of the United States that the government may not want to be uncovered the US Congress has made it a point to use the technology company to bring awareness of certain things.

In case this ban does successfully take place let's discuss other ways artists can get their music across via social media. Artists can promote their music via social media by creating engaging posts, sharing their music videos, collaborating with other artists, using relevant hashtags, interacting with their followers, and running social media ads. Another great social media platform that uses short-form content to gain traction is YouTube. YouTube has expanded on short-form content by introducing features such as Shorts and YouTube Stories. These features allow artists to create and share short videos, which can help them gain exposure and connect with their audience in new ways. Additionally, YouTube's recommendation algorithm can help promote these short-form videos to a wider audience, increasing visibility and potential reach.

You can stop one but you can never stop all!
