Title: Who’s Next From MNRK Music Group
Date: 2/28/2023
Blue Midtown was up on a Tuesday night. All for Hip Hop. Hot 97 Who’s Next and MNRK Music Group represented Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary the right way. Hot 97 did what they always do by bringing and setting the vibes. Having Dj Drewski host and Dj Taj spin was one of the night's many highlights. There was also a guest appearance from Hot 97’s Who’s Next Artist and Label Relations TT Torez. TT Torez has made it clear many times that Hot 97's Who’s Next is a pivotal part of who Hot 97 is so it’s only right that they give us a memorable show in honor of this Hip Hop Anniversary.
MNRK Music Group is a label that has signed the night’s artists which include Nym Lo, Austin Sour, Courtney Bell, and Benny The Butcher’s Collective “The Black Soprano Family”. Each member brought a new and exciting vibe to what the Hip Hop music scene is all about.
Opening the show was New York’s own Austin Sour coming with not only style but the bars to match. Getting the crowd engaged by chanting “Can I Get A Sour Please?”. It was only right that we open up a Hip Hop event with an artist straight from the borough where it all started, The Bronx.
Now that the New York vibes have been set it’s time to take to Detroit with artist Courtney Bell. Courtney Bell is a lyrical yet heartfelt introspective rapper that gives you insight all while giving you the Detroit style and flair. When Courtney Bell performs you feel not only a sense of the pain he went through in 2020 but also the joy he has gotten out of that dark time.
The short but inspiring visit to Detroit had a vibe as New Yorkers love our West Coast natives but now it’s time to head back to New York with Artist Nym Lo. Dj Drewski began to prepare the crowd for his set on stage by letting us know that he’s from Harlem and we all know that Harlem cats love a GRAND entrance for everything, lol. Nym Lo not only entered the stage with a huge fur coat and a fitted cap, but he also made sure he had a bottle of champagne to pop. This of course made sense because anytime you are in the room for Hip Hop it’s a celebratory occasion. Nym Lo opened up his performance with some heavy bar work giving us a taste of what this Harlem rapper has to offer. Of course, every borough and even some neighboring cities were in the building but when Harlem touches the stage the response gets really “different”, lol.
Ending the night was none other than Benny The Butcher’s collective the “Black Soprano Family”. Buffalo’s finest group of lyricists graced the Blue Midtown stage. The Hip Hop community has been saying forever that upstate New York is bringing the originality of the lyrical genre back to right, and they couldn’t be more right. With artists like Rick Hyde, Heem, Loveboat Luciano, Young World, Flexxbabyyy, and Cristina Mackey.
Hot 97 has their ears to the streets and every one next to blow was for sure in that lounge.
